Cutting-edge support for newest BMW vehicles removes reliance on main dealer
A1 Remote Diagnostics has developed and launched a working solution for remotely programming the latest BMW Group vehicles.
The breakthrough, which follows three months of research and development by A1’s own techs, will provide repairers with a quick and cost-effective solution for programming the diagnostic infrastructure on the newest BMW models.
Adam Molloy, operations director said: “Until now, there was no choice but to send models such as the IX and 7 Series to the main dealer for software updates, coding, or programming following module replacements.
“The new diagnostic infrastructure on these vehicles means that if for instance, you replace the steering rack, you have to update almost 50 control units overall. We’ve developed a solution that means you can just code the part being replaced. This is big news for BMW repairers.
“In the UK, we’re the only remote diagnostics company who can do this work inhouse and are making it available via our A1 Remote Diagnostic interface.
“We’re proud to be at the forefront of helping repairers reduce costs and key-to-key times. The last thing anyone wants, is having no choice but to be beholden to main dealers to finish a job.”
In the first week of launch, A1 reported immediate demand for the service and saw it remotely program, code, and calibrate a steering rack on a BMW IX1 in just an hour. Without the A1 Remote Diagnostic interface, the workshop would have potentially been waiting up to 30 days for the vehicle to be programmed and returned by the main dealer.
It’s a solution set to massively benefit anyone who works on BMWs.
Iain Molloy, A1 ADAS Solutions Group’s managing director added: “We all work in a sector that’s constantly evolving and the demands on technicians to keep up is relentless.
“As soon as we got wind the latest BMWs were giving repairers problems, I knew we needed to invest in R&D to keep ahead of the curve. We’re not known for letting anything beat us!”
The A1 Diagnostic Remote interface itself is a relatively inexpensive addition to workshops. Users then pay a predetermined price each time they use it to dial in to A1’s technicians.
Typically, says A1, the interface pays for itself in less than 3 months. For further information click here.
