On Tuesday, 20 August, our sister association, the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) received a letter from Lilian Greenwood MP, Minister for the Future of Roads at the Department for Transport (DfT). The letter outlined the government’s efforts to promote greener transport and how they will look to accelerate the transition to Battery Electric Vehicles going forward.
A key topic in the letter was the potential restoration of the 2030 phase-out date for new Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) cars. While speculation is rife, no official government confirmation has been made. However, NFDA expects that the DfT will make their plans clear in the near future and hopes to be able to provide more details soon.
Within the letter, the DfT acknowledges challenges in maintaining demand for BEVs in the UK market and recognises the need for more efforts to boost this transition.
Lilian Greenwood MP is responsible for BEV transition policy within GB and indicated her intention to discuss the topic with the automotive retail sector.
