RMI Standards and Certification delivers the RMI’s Health & Safety Scheme (RMISC)

There is more and more legislation concerning health & safety and environmental legislation.  The motor vehicle repair sector has to keep up with at least 22 separate pieces of legislation and regulation including: –

  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002
  • Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974
  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1994
  • Environmental Protection Act 1997

“It can be a big headache”, but if you don’t comply with the regulations it can lead to substantial fines, closure of your business or even imprisonment.  For example, carrying out a proscribed process without authorisation can lead to a five-figure fine or imprisonment or both.

RMI’s Health & Safety System provides a tailored solution to these problems.  We will carry out the assessments and provide recommendations to ensure you comply with health and safety legislation.

The RMI package has evolved over time to produce a structured assessment and monitoring system designed to cater specifically for companies in the motor trade.  We will organise and maintain all the required information and customise the records to suit the Company.

The system covers a varied set of legislative requirements.

  • Recommendations to improve company health and safety – A general overview of any health and safety improvements that can be carried out in the short, medium and long term. This could be anything from new signs to improved communications on health and safety matters.
  • Health and Safety Policy Statement – A document making a commitment to looking after the health and safety of people who may be affected by the activities of the organisation and its staff.
  • Health and Safety Policy – A more detailed document containing policy on rules and procedures, safe working practices and arrangements in place for safety management purposes.
  • General Risk Assessment – Examines all the different areas of the business decides the magnitude of any risks and outlines the improvements required.
