RWC Training have successfully gained approval from the IMI to deliver a new Electric Vehicle Technician Accreditation which will create the necessary progression route from the Level 3 EV Qualification. This route is described as more suitable for Bodyshop Technicians than the Level 4 Qualification which is predominantly aimed at Service Maintenance and Master Technicians.
Director of RWC Training Rob Ward said “We are really pleased to gain approval, adding this excellent course to our growing portfolio of IMI courses. The decision to offer this route was based on the demand from our customers for a suitable EV advancement course, and this one is pitched perfectly for the safety and skill requirements of collision repairers. Furthermore, it demonstrates current competence due to the framework being an assessed outcome”.
Rob added “This EV Accreditation course will overcome a challenge, unique to collision repairers, in cases where technicians have successfully achieved the IMI Level 3 EV Qualification over three years ago and despite this being a lifetime qualification, it is not considered as proof of current competence under BS10125 standards after the third year”.
This new two-day course contains some of the IMI Level 4 tasks so it is more advanced than the Level 3, taking Bodyshop Technicians to the next skill level as the number of damaged EVs coming into repairers is set to increases significantly in 2023.
Delivered at the RWC Technology Centre in Milton Keynes, the IMI Electric Vehicle Technician Accreditation is described by RWC as the “Advanced 3+” EV course. It enables technicians to progress from their Level 3 Qualification and further develop their interest, skills and knowledge in the latest EV technology. Delegates will be trained and formally assessed on their understanding of battery technology and their abilities to work safely with high voltage components, gaining the recognition required for Kitemark, insurance and Vehicle Manufacture standards to be upheld.
