Data exchange platform CAPS® has updated its data schema. This will ensure that it stays relevant to changes in the types of data that the motor claims sector processes, while ensuring data security, integrity and compliance.

The CAPS® schema is a strict standard that defines the scope of the data shared on the platform and its validation during a motor claim.

Ensuring the schema closely reflects any changes in the data gathered for motor claims is vital to ensuring that all of the data exchanged using CAPS® continues to be reliable and integrates with all required software platforms, covering more than 1.7 million claims per year.

The latest version of the schema has now been released to technical teams and system supplier providers for implementation.

The updates enable CAPS® to validate new values, such as updating the range of allowed excesses and hire rates to be reflective of current market values. It also ensures CAPS® reflects the growing integration of claims and systems used both within the application and bodyshop sectors, where CAPS has enabled new systems to enter the market.

New fields introduced in the latest release also enable work providers to add more context to the insurance provision for a claim: for example, whether the excess has been waived.

The CAPS® schema will be reviewed every quarter and update to meet new industry requirements. Users will also be able to request additional fields be added ahead of these periodic updates by emailing support@caps.co.uk to give feedback.

“We continue to develop CAPS® to ensure that it provides effortless and seamless data transfer for everyone across the motor claims sector,” said David Neave, Chair of the CAPS® National Advisory Council. “It is essential for insurers, bodyshops and all other organisations in the repair ecosystem to know that they can rely on CAPS® to communicate 100 per cent of the data processed during a claim.

“CAPS® is an essential component in helping the motor insurance claims industry to automate labour-intensive manual processes that can be costly and introduce data mistakes that have a direct impact on the customer experience. We are committed to investing to make sure that it continues to be the preferred data exchange for motor claims.”

CAPS® is a secure data exchange platform that connects bodyshops, work providers, insurers and the wider motor repair supply chain to all the major claims and management applications. It enables all parties to share data safely and consistently.

CAPS® enables bodyshops to extract more value from their chosen management system. It allows any company involved in the collision repair process to work more effectively with its chosen partners and better serve its customers by sharing data quickly and seamlessly. One of the additional security benefits of using CAPS® is that it does not store client data.
