The National Body Repair Association (NBRA) representing vehicle repairers in the UK, has joined top firms in the Daily Mails campaign to demand an end to the quarantine of healthy workers.
Under current Government rules, anyone pinged by the NHS Covid app informing them that they have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19, must isolate for a period of 10 days.
Whilst the rules are due to end on 16 August, the Daily Mail has written an open letter to the Prime Minister urging him to bring forward plans, so those who are double jabbed are exempt from quarantining as long as they take regular tests. Businesses including the Road Haulage Association, Weatherspoon’s and Tui UK have joined the NBRA in backing the letter.
Chris Weeks, NBRA Director comments, “It is frankly bizarre that bodyshop workers have not been added to the exemption list, considering they were on the list of key workers at the beginning of the pandemic.
“An increasing number of bodyshops are starting to encounter difficulties relating to the ‘pingdemic’ and this has a real potential to significantly hamper the repairing of emergency servicing vehicles, including ambulances and police cars.
“We urge the Government to add key sectors such as ourselves to the exemption list, before the rules wreak severe havoc on the industry.”
