SYNETIQ, an IAA company one of the UK’s leading vehicle dismantling, recycling and salvage companies, has taken a step forward in its sustainability journey by undertaking a project to calculate the carbon footprint of auction vehicles.
Conducted in collaboration with sustainability consultants Oakdene Hollins, the study focused on one of the most popular vehicles in the market.
As part of SYNETIQ’s sustainability strategy, Our Road to Tomorrow, this initiative aims to provide an increased understanding of the company’s emissions and to identify areas for improvement.
Results of the project highlighted that transportation of auction vehicles was the primary contributor of emissions, followed by vehicle processing and forklift movements.
Recognising the need to reduce transport emissions, SYNETIQ is taking proactive measures to address this challenge. SYNETIQ is collaborating with Master’s students from Sheffield Hallam University to conduct a study on its HGV fleet. This study will explore innovative solutions and trial new software aimed at optimising route planning to minimise stem mileage in collection and parts delivery vehicles.
