VBRA ADAS Guidance

Although year on year 2026 is hardly looking dynamic for sales growth in the truck sector with a Y-T-D decline of -2.8%. March registrations bucked the trend with a heathy increase, up 13.2% at 4,928 units, against March of last year at 4,351 new trucks going on the road.

There would appear there’s no natural phenomenon for this growth in sales of HGV’s, but it could be some urgency on bodybuilders behalf to get bodies fitted and delivered prior to the end of their financial year before April. Of interest in March, was the registrations of a slightly higher percentage heavy +18 tonne trucks at 82.82%, more than in a normal month.

Year-to-date DAF is leading sales with 28.6% of the market, followed by Volvo at 18.9%, putting Scania in third place with a 15.46% shear of the market.

In March MAN must have delivered a big fleet order, as 554 trucks were registered against only 351 in the previous March.

The sales of full electric trucks are small but growing but in a recent Government consultation the NFDA insisted the Dept for Transport must not implement the over ambitious ZEV mandate to lead us up to the end of diesel new truck production in 2035 and 2040, (see ‘Commercial Motor’ magazine page 14,12 March 26).

This policy direction has been disastrous for the car and van dealers being forced to discount heavily to meet targets. It is imperative that the move to zero emissions/EVs trucks is driven by demand and is viable and operational for truck buyers.
