HSE and Fee for Intervention costs
Maintaining an active Health and Safety presence is more important for bodyshops than ever, as a HSE inspection can be a costly expense. HSE rules mean that an inspection could potentially cost £129 per hour for any contraventions – eating into your business’ profits. HSE’s website states:
“The fee payable by dutyholders found to be in material breach of the law is £129 per hour. The total amount to be recovered will be based on the amount of time it takes HSE to identify and conclude its regulatory action, in relation to the material breach (including associated office work), multiplied by the relevant hourly rate. This will include part hours.” HSE.gov.uk.
Due to these heavy charges, if your garage does not keep on top of the latest legislation, a visit from HSE could become very costly, very quickly. However, the RMI are dedicated to ensuring that bodyshops stay ahead of any Health and Safety issues and operate at their best.
